Project Information

For this project, I was assigned to single-handedly create a full user experience with a narrative themed game which could help a player believe in an alternate reality or game world.
Due to the time constraint of only having 2 weeks to develop the game during the semester, I decided to combine both a website used by teachers for making lessons into interactive experiences/games along with a reliable Twine system.
I started off with determining the game world and narrative of this game, and ended up quickly deciding what could help a player become invested the quickest would be to create a mystery for them to solve.
The world of ‘Murder Mystery House’ revolves around the player character entering a virtual simulation to pass a test: Solving a murder that has been set up.

After going into Inkarnate and creating the level layout, I was able to start sectioning off different areas of the map for different clues, and used Twine to write each thing in detail.
As I worked on the game, I also created soundtracks, and had multiple unique soundtracks in the game playing on loop to match the intended player experience for the player in specific sections or areas.
Once everything was ready, I compiled it all together into ThingLink and was able to easily share the project with others for thoughts and feedback.
Project Takeaways
Working on this project alongside other classes was very interesting, as I had never gotten the opportunity to utilize so many tools like this for a solo-project.
Since the class and goal of the project was meant to be centered around player experience, I think the greatest and primary downside of my project came to the fact that Twine files had to be opened after they were downloaded, which could interrupt the experience of the game.
If I were to take this project and try to polish it further, I would try to combine all the elements of the game and make it a more seamless experience with fewer interruptions.
All in all, I consider this assignment a success, given the short time frame and limited resources I was given in the middle of a semester where I had to be considerate of studio team-projects.
